About Firma Power
Firma Power is building out portfolios of load-enabling clean firm power—aggregating and optimizing portfolios of renewable, storage, and firming assets to deliver reliable, carbon-free capacity to hyperscale data centers and other large loads. Our proprietary software, FirmaOS, integrates advanced optimization, power flow analysis, and data-driven project screening to design least-cost, fully deliverable clean-firm portfolios.
The Role
We are seeking a Director of Utility Partnerships to lead our engagement with regulated and unregulated utilities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in utility business development and energy origination. Familiarity with regulatory affairs is a plus, with a specific focus on building strong commercial relationships with utility companies.
In this role, you will be responsible for engaging with utilities, to build relationships and demonstrate the capability and availability of Firma developed portfolios of clean firm power to enable and serve new large load interconnections You will work with the Firma development team ensuring Firma Power’s power strategies align to these requirements, and developing the partnerships and commercial structures with utilities required to enable Firma’s customers to connect to the grid with Firma’s power portfolios. You will serve as the primary bridge to and voice of the utilities we work with to enable the rapid and clean development of new large loads.
Responsibilities
Develop and Execute Utility Strategy: Lead the creation of Firma’s utility partnership roadmap, focusing on how our clean-firm portfolios can solve utility capacity needs and accelerate the interconnection of large loads.
Design Partnership Structures: Work directly with utility leadership to design commercial and technical partnerships that align Firma’s power strategies with utility integrated resource plans (IRPs) and operational requirements.
Lead Load Interconnection Projects: Collaborate with utilities introduced by Firma’s hyperscale data center customers to navigate complex interconnection and power supply agreements.
Proactive Relationship Building: Cultivate a deep network within investor-owned utilities (IOUs), cooperative utilities, and municipal utilities to identify proactive partnership opportunities ahead of market demand.
Translate Requirements: Act as the "voice of the utility" internally, working with our software and power supply teams to ensure FirmaOS outputs and project development activities are aligned with utility commercial interests and regulatory constraints.
Navigate Regulatory Frameworks: Advocate for and structure innovative tariff or bilateral agreements that support the delivery of carbon-free capacity to large-scale loads.
Qualifications
Required:
Extensive experience in utility business development, energy origination, regulatory affairs, or a related field within the power sector.
Existing relationships with key decision-makers at major IOUs, Coops, or Munis.
Proven track record of successfully negotiating complex commercial agreements or partnerships with major U.S. utilities.
Deep understanding of utility business models, cost-recovery mechanisms, and the regulatory processes governing large load interconnections.
Experience working within or closely alongside the data center industry or other hyperscale energy users.
Strong ability to synthesize technical grid constraints and power flow concepts into high-level commercial and strategic narratives.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders at utilities and Fortune 500 customers.
Nice-to-have:
Experience with "behind-the-meter" or "front-of-the-meter" large-scale storage and renewable integration.
Familiarity with clean energy procurement structures (e.g., Bring Your Own Capacity, Green Tariffs, sleeving, or VPPAs).
Experience in a fast-paced, venture-backed startup environment.

Compensation, Leveling, and Benefits
Base salary: $150,000 – $215,000 (commensurate with experience)
Equity (Profits Interest): Meaningful ownership opportunity in Firma Power, vesting over four years.
Performance bonus: Target 10% - 15% of base salary (contingent on company & individual performance).
